The Henry Administrative Council made a scheduling change for the next 12 months.  Rather than meet every two months to discuss the business of the church, the leadership council of the church will meet monthly for the next 12 months.  The additional six meetings will be focused on leadership development of our ministry team leaders.  These meetings are open to anyone who leads a ministry or interested in leading a ministry.  We will be using the book "10 Prescriptions for a Healthy Church" and Pastor Will is leading the discussions.  We hope that everyone called to leadership or with a passion to lead ministry will come and participate in the discussion and learning.

Elizabeth Wild will be embarking on a mission trip to Africa University in February, 2018.  This mission is part of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference and Henry UMC will help support her through financial contributions.  Elizabeth will participate directly with the University of Zimbabwe on a project to provide housing for the instructors at the college of Agriculture.  If you would like to make a contribution please indicate on your checks: "Elizabeth Wild Mission Trip" in the memo line.  Thank you for your support.

Church members attended a post In the Garden meeting on September 19th.  It was decided that $2,000 will be transferred to the building fund to help with the Moving and Parsonage expenses incurred this year.  Another $1,000 will go to UMCOR for hurricane and flood relief in the devastated areas of Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.  Proceeds have already been sent to Africa University ($300), the Henry Ecumenical VBS ($200) and Seven Baskets Food Pantry ($300).

Next years event will be held on April 25th, 2018.  Our first planning meeting will be on Tuesday, February 6th.  If you have creative ideas for the garden market/bazaar, please share them.  Contact the church office to share  your ideas or volunteer to participate.

This Sunday, come to Henry United Methodist Church  for our first ecumenical Youth Night.  The community of churches in Henry are coming together to provide a vibrant youth ministry for all kids grades 6th-12th.  The meeting will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  We will have praise music, a lesson, group discussion, an activity and a meal.  Anyone is welcome to come and participate.  We hope to see you there.

It's not too late to provide a donation for a United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) flood bucket.  With the storms in Texas and Florida, the mission group has exhausted much of its supply of clean up supplies, and they need to restock in order to be prepared for future natural disasters around the world.  We have a sign up sheet for specific supplies at the church, or you can provide a monetary donation (write the check to Henry UMC but put "UMCOR" in the memo line).  100% of all monetary donations goes directly to supplies and shipping of those supplies.

Join us Sunday Night, September 24th for our first Family Night of the Fall.  We will have a short lesson (by Pastor Will), a small group discussion (with family), a meal (bring a side to share) and will compete in a generational trivia contest.  We are putting together a trivia event that will require youth, young adults and seniors on each team in order to have the best chance to win.  Invite your friends, family and neighbors of all ages and come be a part of this event.  We hope to see you there.

VBS is coming! The Henry ecumenical Churches have announced that the theme this year is "Hero Central: Discover Your Strength in God!". VBS will be from July 24-July 28, from 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm. VBS will be at the Presbyterian Church of Henry located at 511 Wirt St. 
Henry UMC will be helping provide the snack for Monday through Thursday. We would love to have your help in preparing and serving the snack. If you are interested, even for one of those four nights, please contact Pastor Will in the church office.

Outreach/Witness held their last meeting for the summer on June 15th.  The committee sent Father's Day cards to members of the church.  The mission for June was Peace with Justice.  $45 will be sent to the Conference for this mission.  Our mission for July is Africa University -Making the Dream.  The development of Africa University is a consequence of the growth of United Methodism in Africa.  It is the only Methodist University in Africa.  The vision for teh University started in 1980.  Finally, in 1991 the dream and hard work of many dedicated people led to their groundbreaking ceremony.  On June 12, 2017, they celebrated the 23rd graduation ceremony with over 700 students achieving their dream.  Africa University offers 52 undergraduate programs and 30 post graduate programs.  The first $20 of the mission cups will go to Africa University.  We will be taking a short break from meetings but our work will continue as we serve our church.  -Lois Crook

For the last several years, the Outreach/Witness Committee has sponsored Christmas in July.  The event will be held July 1st thru July 31st.  Please bring in your Christmas crafts and creations.  All of the money raised will go toward the parsonage remodeling and the pastor's moving expenses.  Please put a price on your items and have them reasonably priced so that they will sell.  Looking forward to seeing all your great crafts!

Renovations are nearly complete in the parsonage.  Kevin Smith and his crew of workers began work on June 13th adn the construction phase of the new bedroom was completed on June 20th.  There are still finishing touches that need to be done such as paint and carpet.  Other repairs and maintenance have also been done.  The Ad Council has provided an Expense Board.  You can keep track of the fund raising progress in the church foyer.  Recently, the council approved raising funds for a total of $13,500 to cover construction costs, moving expenses, a new computer for the pastor, and other maintenance, repairs and item replacement as needed in the parsonage.  The Pastor's office has also been redecorated.  The paint and supplies were donated by two individuals and the new carpet for the office is included in the fund raising total.  Another individual has covered the expense of new carpeting for the entire recreation space, including the basement stairs, at the church parsonage.    The Board of Trustees thanks everyone for the generous giving during this fund raising drive, their time spent helping with projects, donations of supplies and materials, and all the prayers during this time.  There is still plenty of work to do at the parsonage and future projects will be coming soon at the church.  -Tammy Beall, HUMC Board of Trustees
